Dear visitors,
We are pleased that you are interested in our club with its now 64-year history.
Rotarian visitors are always welcome in our club. We only ask, if possible, that you register in advance with the secretary or the sergeant-at-arms (Clubmeister).
As you certainly know, our city, which is significant in terms of history, is characterised by a rich Jewish history, but also by Martin Luther and the Diet of Worms and thus by a great Christian tradition.
Our meetings now take place since the new rotarian year 2021-2022 in the "Haus am Dom", Domplatz 3 in Worms on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month at 12.30 pm. On the 2nd Monday of each month we have an online meeting via Zoom at 20.00. Our previously Pandemic-related regular Zoom meetings will thus now be reduced to one Monday per month. On the 4th Monday we meet as a family meeting with partners at 7.30 pm in the restaurant / café "Ohne Gleichen" in Worms, Kriemhildenstr. 11. Parking is possible in the surrounding car parks and parking places.
Our club was founded on 23.07.1957 by the RC of Mainz, the charter took place on 07.09.1957.
At present we have 49 members from various professions, 40 male Rotarians and 9 female Rotarians.
We have three international contact clubs with whom we regularly maintain excellent and very friendly relations. In the UK this is the RC of Margate (Kent) since 1958 and in France the RC de Blois on the beautiful Loire since 1959. We meet regularly every year, once at home and the other time in the partner country. Only the Covid pandemic has forced us to take a longer break in 2020 and also in 2021. In October 2020, the third contact club, the Israeli RC Carmel-Haifa, joined us. Joint activities are in the pipeline for the future. Several club friends intend to visit their friends from Haifa in April 2022.
Two German clubs were founded by us, the neighbouring club RC Lampertheim on the right bank of the Rhine in 1980 and the Saxon RC Bautzen/Budyšin in 1992.
For many years, our club has been awarding an annual sponsorship prize from its own foundation to honour and support young Worms artists, as well as other outstanding young achievers from other areas, in their professional careers.
In Worms and with many neighbouring clubs, our annual "orange campaign" has been very well known for many years and always receives great support. Every December we sell large quantities of freshly harvested, untreated Italian oranges. The net proceeds always go to social projects for socially disadvantaged children and young people.
We are a sponsor club of a Worms Rotaract Club, the RAC Worms, with which we are closely connected.
The presidential handover of 2021-2022 took place on 27 July 2021 in the Palatinate. Now Past President Rita Lodwig had passed on the Presidential baton to our friend Ulrich R. Haas, now our new President. On this occasion we awarded this year's sponsorship prize of 2,000 euros to the cellist Julia Panzer from Worms.
New projects are in the pipeline, such as the handing over of 18 new iPads to a Worms school with many children from urban hotspots, after the federal and state governments unfortunately did not sufficiently fulfil their promises in this regard.
In our club, the cultivation of friendship, the exchange of professional experiences, the tolerant confrontation with different opinions and attitudes, friendship between peoples as well as the international youth exchange is a constant, bridge-building task.
In the fight for the global eradication of polio, we continue to see ourselves firmly united with over 1.2 million Rotarians around the world.
